Clevedon
Pier - (15 mins walk)
The only fully intact, Grade 1 listed pier in the country. The pier
has been beautifully restored and provides a lovely day out for all
the family. There are wonderful views of the Severn Estuary, the islands
Flat Holm & Steep Holm, the two Severn Bridges, and the best sunsets
in the West Country.
Tyntesfield
- (10 minutes by car)
Spectacular Victorian country house and estate.
Situated on a ridge overlooking the beautiful Yeo Valley. Tyntesfield
was saved for the nation by the National Trust in June 2002 with funding
from the National Heritage Memorial Fund, other heritage partners and
a £3 million public appeal.
Clevedon
Court - (Five minutes walk)
Outstanding 14th-century manor house and 18th-century terraced garden.
The house was built by Sir John de Clevedon in c.1320, incorporating
parts of a massive 13th-century tower and great hall. Much of the original
building is still evident. Altered and added to by the Elizabethans,
it has been home to the Elton family since 1709. The house contains
many striking Eltonware pots and vases and a fascinating collection
of Nailsea glass. There is also a beautiful terraced garden.
Noah's
Ark Zoo Farm - (10 minutes by car)
Located at a working farm in the beautiful Somerset countryside.
Wet or dry, a wonderful whole day out. 80 different sorts of animals
with information about them all; adventure playgrounds indoors and outdoors;
Food and Farming Exhibition describing all the main plant and animal
sectors of the industry (the owner has been county chairman of the NFU);
a Tractor Ride takes visitors over the farm and includes stunning views
across the Severn Estuary and its Bridges and over to Wales.
Cheddar
Caves and Gorge
- (30 minutes by car)
A major tourist attraction for over 200 years, with plenty to do above
and below ground. Also a Site of Special Scientific Interest in an Area
of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where you'll find many rare species.
The Cathedral-like Caves and Britain's biggest Gorge are million-year-old
Ice Age river beds. Your ancestors have lived here for 40,000 years,
and world-famous Cheddar Man is Britain's oldest complete skeleton.
Try rock sport adventure activities or just enjoy a quiet cream tea.
